Scholarships for school going students (Class VI to XII)

Master Harbans Singh Memorial Scholarship Programme

Master Harbans Singh was a dedicated Sewadar of Nishkam, who came in the Nishkam’s fold in the most difficult times of 1984 -1985. He was a teacher by profession and rendered his valuable and dedicated services upto November, 1993, when while coming back fromAmritsar, after completing a sewa mission, he met with an accident and departed from this world along with his wife. In recognition of his dedicated Nishkam Sewa, this scholarship programme was instituted.

Under this programme, scholarships of Rs.1200/- to Rs.2400/- per annum are granted to needy/intelligent students, of classes 6th to 10th, with the help of Relief Committee of Greater New York.

Scholarships of Rs.1500/- to Rs.3000/- per month are granted to students, of classes 11th and 12th, by Nishkam, with the help of its donors, who have instituted scholarships in the memory of their dear ones.

The scholarships are granted to the student getting at least 50% marks in the annual exams and maintaining model conduct. The Programme covers students of Govt. and aided schools ofDelhiand Shahabad (Haryana). Approximately 400 students are covered under the programme every year and since inception about 3000 students have secured scholarships under the programme. Applications are invited in July every year through schools included in Nishkam’s list. Students have to undergo written test and interview for securing scholarship.

Scholarships to students pursuing Professional Courses

Sikh Human Development Foundation (S.H.D.F.), U.S.A., Scholarship Programme

This programme aims at supporting brilliant undergraduate students, who maintain model conduct and aspire to achieve excellent results. Under this programme, scholarships up to Rs.24000/- per annum along with incentives to toppers are granted to students going for professional courses, depending on their needs, aspirations and the courses to be pursued by them. The scholarship is renewable on annual basis during tenure of the course.

This programme is already being implemented in Northern part of Indiai.e. the States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarhbesides Delhi. The programme is funded by Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF), USA. Annual number of scholarships has increased from 22 in 2000-01 to more than 500 in 2011-12. From 2000-01 onwards more than 2250 have secured the scholarships. Applications are invited from eligible students in March every year through advertisement in newspapers and through Nishkam’s website www.nishkam.org. Students have to undergo written test and interview for securing scholarship.


Students of Madurai Kamraj University, Madurai

Under this programme, the Council grants scholarships of Rs.5000/- per annum to the students doing Post Graduate Diploma in Sikhism and Comparative Religion, inMaduraiKamarajUniversityunder the auspices of Guru Nanak Dev ji Chair. Nearly 5 students are covered under the scheme every year and so far 76 students have been granted scholarships under this programme.
